Donald Trump Jr., son of the former President of the United States, made a brief visit to southern Spain in mid-November. His plane landed at Malaga–Costa del Sol International Airport, from where his convoy proceeded along the AP-7 motorway towards Gibraltar. The Spanish National Police escorted the motorcade, having been notified in advance of the high-profile visit.
During his time in Gibraltar, Trump Jr. spent approximately three and a half hours at the Madison Building business complex. There, he met with Jaime Levy, a lawyer and partner at the prominent law firm Hassans, who is also a close associate of Gibraltar’s Chief Minister Fabian Picardo. Trump Jr. also met with entrepreneur Christian Ryan, who, alongside American investor Konstantin Sokolov, is spearheading a major data center project in the North Mole area near the port.
The project, known as Pelagos Data Centres, is planned to have a capacity of up to 250 MW and aims to become a strategic digital hub for Europe. The private investment involved is estimated at around €2.1 billion, with the first phase expected to launch by the end of 2027. Full operational capacity is targeted for 2033. This initiative represents a record-breaking private investment for Gibraltar and is anticipated to generate hundreds of jobs, significantly enhancing the territory’s reputation as a technology hub.
Donald Trump Jr.’s visit to the Costa del Sol extended beyond Gibraltar. Local media reported that his trip combined business and leisure, including a stop in Marbella, one of the most prestigious resorts in the Malaga province. His choice to visit Malaga and the Costa del Sol underscores the region’s growing prominence as a nexus of luxury tourism, international business, and technological innovation.
