Residents and visitors of Torrevieja and surrounding towns in Alicante province have a vibrant weekend ahead with a variety of cultural exhibitions, concerts, and outdoor activities to enjoy from May 1 through 3.
May 1–3: Exhibition Featuring Picasso, Warhol, Murakami, and More
Until May 18, the Maritime Museum of Santa Pola presents a unique exhibition showcasing works by renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Takashi Murakami, and Marc Chagall. The pieces come from the Vicente Aguilera Museum of Contemporary Art in Vilafamés (MACVAC) and the collections of Mariano Poyatos and Filomena De Lorenzo (Espai Nivi gallery). Many of the paintings are previously unpublished or recent acquisitions, offering visitors a rare opportunity to explore these collections.
The exhibition is organized around four thematic areas: “Body,” “Rituals,” “Landscapes of the Soul,” and “Transcendence.” This thematic journey guides visitors from tangible, biographical experiences to abstract and symbolic realms. Curators emphasize that the exhibit is not a fixed narrative but a reflective process, inviting visitors to engage at their own pace, with each artwork serving as a threshold and each room a contemplative space.

May 1–3: Excursion to Tabarca Island
Daily boat trips depart from the ports of Torrevieja, Santa Pola, and Alicante to Tabarca Island, the largest and only inhabited island in the Valencian Community. Visitors can enjoy spectacular underwater views, explore diverse marine life, savor local cuisine at island restaurants, and visit historical landmarks.
The boats accommodate up to 250 passengers, including those with reduced mobility and pets. Passengers are welcome to bring their own food and drinks onboard.

May 1: Torrevieja Friday Market
The weekly street market in Parque Antonio Soria operates every Friday and is one of the largest small-business hubs in the Vega Baja region. Spanning 82,000 square meters, it features up to 700 stalls offering food, clothing, footwear, accessories, and more at prices often lower than major supermarket chains.
The market offers several conveniences, including free parking, public restrooms, and a taxi stand. Additionally, a bus service accessible to people with reduced mobility or wheelchair users runs every 20 minutes from 8:00 to 14:00.
From Friday through Sunday, starting at 19:30, an amusement and games park suitable for all ages is also open at the market site.
May 2: Musical Show “¡Idols! La revolución K-POP”
The Grand Theatre of Elche hosts the family-friendly musical “¡Idols! La revolución K-POP.” Set in a dystopian future where sound is banned and rhythm is weaponized, the story follows three young artists known as the “Warriors of Rhythm.” United by friendship and the power of K-POP, they discover their music can awaken, liberate, and transform the world, ultimately saving it through rhythm.

May 2: Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” Concert
The Archaeological Museum of Alicante (MARQ) hosts the Arde Quartet as part of the Candlelight concert series dedicated to Antonio Vivaldi. The program features the celebrated violin concertos known as “The Four Seasons.”

May 3: Abraham Cupeiro and Arnova Ensemble Concert
At the International Auditorium of Torrevieja, Abraham Cupeiro and the Arnova Ensemble orchestra present their new program “Pangea.” The concert takes the audience on a musical journey across the ancient supercontinent Pangaea, which existed around 200 million years ago before breaking apart into today’s continents.
The performance unites diverse global musical influences, from Southern Oceania’s shell sounds to the mysterious Chinese mountains, North American plains, and South American jungles. The Arnova Ensemble, composed of 21 talented musicians, accompanies Cupeiro and María Ruiz. This program was recorded with the London Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios.

May 3: International Jazz Day Concert
The Principal Theatre of Alicante celebrates International Jazz Day with a concert featuring local, national, and international jazz musicians. This fifteenth annual event, recognized by UNESCO and held worldwide on April 30, raises funds for charity.
