Spain’s Tax Agency (Agencia Tributaria) has released the 2023 statistical data on taxpayers who paid personal income tax (IRPF). This comprehensive dataset allows for an insightful analysis of income levels across municipalities in Spain, highlighting the richest and poorest towns nationwide.

The Richest Towns in Spain

On a national scale, the wealthiest municipalities are predominantly located in the Community of Madrid and the province of Barcelona. Leading the ranking is Pozuelo de Alarcón, a suburb of Madrid, boasting an average annual income of €88,011 per capita. It is followed by Boadilla del Monte, also in Madrid, with an average income of €70,869.

Aigües: The Wealthiest Municipality in the Valencian Community

Among the top ten richest towns in Spain, the small village of Aigües in Alicante province stands out, ranking eighth overall. With a population under 1,200, Aigües reported an impressive average income of €60,883 per person in 2023. This marks a significant increase from the previous year, when it ranked 877th with an average income of €27,247. Aigües now holds the distinction of being the richest town in the Valencian Community, followed by Rocafort (€55,901), Corbera (€52,160), Godella (€45,318), and Bétera (€43,485).
