Torrevieja’s City Council has revealed the first designs for a significant new public space at Alto de la Casilla, set to become the city’s next major "green lung." Spanning 27,000 m², this contemporary park will include a scenic mirador (viewpoint), an expansive children’s playground, various recreation areas, and a vibrant community hub close to the city center.
The park’s design features eight themed zones equipped with zip-lines, slides, and diverse play areas, emphasizing family engagement and daily outdoor activities for residents. City officials highlight that this development is not merely a viewpoint but will be the largest children’s park currently missing from Torrevieja’s urban landscape.
The project is anticipated to take approximately two years to complete, spanning the remainder of the current municipal term and extending into the next. Earlier in February 2023, the city announced plans to tender the preliminary design phase.
Funding for the park will involve collaboration with the La Olla sector developer, who will contribute to part of the construction, while the City Council will oversee the development of the park and its associated infrastructure. This initiative revives a site where a viewpoint project, originally launched in 2004, remained unfinished for over twenty years due to legal and financial challenges.
